After

Mileage: 65,000

Here is one of my cats that I have named After. I bought it from the original owners (husband/wife) December 2002 with 58K miles. They had it garaged it's whole life. As of 15OCT05, After has 65K miles. It sits side by side with Before in my garage - what a sight. This is the only Cougar I currently have that no longer has it's factory paint. I had it painted in 2004 when I modified the headlights and put the ground effects on.

You can see my other '88 XR-7 named Before, my un-named '87 XR-7, and '86 XR-7 (currently for sale) here on CoolCats. There are more pictures, including After's factory Monroney label (window sticker) at my web site.

After was built with mostly all the '88 XR-7 options:

  • Moonroof
  • Leather
  • Dual 6-way power seats
  • Keyless entry system (keypad above door)
  • Illuminted entry system
  • Auto-lamp on/off/delay system
  • Automatic headlamp dimmer
  • Automatic temperature control
  • Premium Sound: power amplifier, two additional door-mounted speakers and premium rear speakers for 80w total
  • Graphic equalizer
  • Power antenna
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Fingertip speed control
  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Power windows
  • Power door locks
  • Power decklid release and power fuel filler door release
  • Interval windshield wipers
  • Carpeted floor mats
  • Electric rear window defroster
  • Engine compartment light
  • Dual illuminated vanity mirrors
  • Instrument panel courtesy lights
  • Dual reading lamps

The options it was not built with:

  • Full digital dash (don't want it in this car anyway)
  • Block heater (don't need it, would have been cool to have)
  • Argent-color cast 15" aluminum turbine wheels (I like the body-color turbines better anyway)

Some of the '88 XR-7 standard features it has:

  • Dual exhaust
  • Traction lok 8.8 rear axle with 3.08 gears
  • Power mirrors
  • Power lumbar seats
  • Diagnostic alert lamps
  • Cornering lamps
  • Body-color cast 15" aluminum turbine wheels
  • AC

This is the car I had been seeking out for several years - fully loaded, black, garaged, original owner, etc. The reason I bought Before, was because at the time, it was the closest I had found in several years' time to exactly what I wanted. After looking for those several years, I found this one only about 5 or 6 weeks after I had settled on Before, and it was exactly what I wanted. So even though I just bought a virtually identical car 5 or 6 weeks prior, I bought this one too. The differences? Leather, moonroof, and black turbines. It was quite awesome though, to see these two twins in my garage. Now, they sit in my garage as "before and after" versions of each other. Even better.

Future Plans:
After will be getting a sound system whenever I get the time. I also hope to finish up some of the light mods as well sometime before I die. I have a bunch of other gingerbread mods that I would like to complete over the next few years but the list is too long. The next big transformation will hopefully occur several years from now by dropping a 347 or 351 in After and improving his chassis to handle it. My biggest hurdle with making progress on After is time.
