Over the 20+ year history of these Fox Cougars, there have been some seen around that defy explanation, or are just uncommon, or are just...in a category of their own. They are truly "square pegs". This is a collection of car photos that we've found over the years: some from car shows, some from the Internet, some from eBay, and some from viewer submissions. Enjoy!

This appears to be a NASCAR-spec Cougar buzzing Michigan Avenue in Dearborn, MI sometime in the late 1980's. Thanks to Armand for the info. |
This is a drag Cougar we found on the 'Net a few years ago. |
Here's an older photo of a race-prepped Cougar. |
Love the old school race theme going on with this '86. |
Another exceptionally clean race Cougar, an '83 with a 460. |
We've tried for years to hunt down the owner of this one. Wow. |
A much different race Cougar, Stephen LeBlanc built this slightly shortened '85 for a road race in his native Newfoundland. There is much, much more to the story, though--read the full article here (PDF format). |
| NICE PAINT! |
Unfortunately this is the biggest picture of the car we found, but you can tell that it's got a pretty solid graphics scheme. |
Cool color scheme and hood scoop. |
Gotta love the flames. |
An '88 in teal. Looks incredible. |
This 1988 XR7 has a previously unseen tape stripe at the bottom. |
| UMMM....YEAH.... |
If anything, this shows a little creativity. This is an older Jaguar front end grafted onto a Cougar chassis and is affectionately dubbed a 'Couguar'. |
Our guess is that this is a by-product of perhaps a weeeee bit too much alcohol. |
See above. |
If ever a Cougar and a Mustang GT ever produced offspring...well, here you go. The bodywork is very good, and the paint looks outstanding. |
Here's another Cat that has flipped...at both ends. |
Oh, this poor 1996 Cat. Officially called a Packard-Bayliff by CoachBuilt. Unofficially...what should never be done to a Cougar. |
Perpetuating the trend is Easy Rods, a company that provides an "economical" way for people to convert an MN12 Cougar or Thunderbird into a replica of a '49-'51 Ford.
Riiiiiight.

These are Tiffany Classic Coupes, which were based upon a Mercury Cougar. They've been all over the Web for the last decade or so, and there seems to be a serious following for the cars. The wheelbase was stretched to an incredible 145" for the bodywork to fit. |

Found on AutoTrader.com several years ago, the title of this V6 '87's listing was "Hittin' Switches".
Enough said.
This is Nisha's 1983 lowrider, complete with hydraulics and a sliding ragtop. Cougars make excellent lowriders but the crowds are still into GM's, apparently. But that only makes this car will stand out even more. |
Just in case you ever wondered what a 1985 Thunderbird front end looked like on a 1987-88 Cougar...here you go. |
...and here's a Thunderbird with a Cougar front end. |
| FOREIGN CATS |
This is Niki's killer '88 Cougar, with lots of custom touches, at an American car show in her native England. Unfortunately the car was lost recently in an accident; Niki was okay and she's currently looking for another Cat to replace it. |

Kari from Finland sent photos of his '87 20th Anniversary, which he says is the only anniversary Cougar in his country. |
However, Kari's not alone in his love for the Cats...his friend in Finland also has an '88 XR7. |
Sverre checked in from Norway with his stunning white '86 Cougar. |
It never ceases to amaze us how far these cars have gone in 20 years. Imagine our surprise when we got these photos in an e-mail from Dmitry...who lives in Russia. Amazing. |

| WILD BODIES |
These photos were taken at a car show in September 2000 in northeastern OH. Interesting stuff going on, like the Chrysler Turbo vents and emblems on the fenders, and the Camaro-ish hood scoop. No, it's not a Saleen but it is an XR7 5-speed. The interior was pretty much stock. |

Chad caught this sweet Cat for sale at a car lot in NJ. What's really different is the ground effects kit...we've never seen one like this before. Whoever owns this car gets a real one-of-a-kind Cat, that's for sure. Very clean. |
This wide-body MN12 kit is from Aeroform. The kit was complete with fenders and rear quarters, and a built-in wraparound rear spoiler. It is believed the company no longer makes the kit. |
